Whilst the recent settled period of high pressure of the last two weeks has been very welcome after a very wet and miserable winter, the frosty nights haven't really done the fishing any favours. The temperature gains during the day being more than matched by temperature losses at night and all the ponds were completely frozen over by sunday morning. The aerator on the Trees pond did start however and pegs 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11 and 12 were fishable within an hour. Very few fish were caught however just a few small Roach and Perch. Before the freeze the Wires pond had been fishing fairly well with plenty of Roach, a few Rudd and Skimmers obliging the few hardy souls that graced it's banks. The summer league of matches will be held again this year with a total of 16 matches from and including May 1st to August 14th. The format will be the same as previous years with a 10, 6, 4, 2, 1 points system. Entry will be £12 (£8 pools payout on the night and league prize fund £2 and golden peg fund £2. A slight change this year will be the availablility of a Matches-only membership of £40 (effectively a 16 x £2.50 bank fee up front payment). This will hopefully improve match attendances and make them a bit more worthwhile.
I am in the process of trying to buy some more small Carp and Ide for the Wires and Trees ponds and also some "surprises" to add interest and mystery. I will keep you informed on this one but hopefully this will be in the next couple of weeks or so.
